School’s In

Whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

1 CORINTHIANS 10:31

IF YOU’RE NOT ALREADY back in school, you soon will be. What are you looking forward to? What are you dreading? What gets you excited about school?

The great news is, school is like vitamins. You do it every day, and you get better, stronger, and smarter. Vitamins and a healthy diet fill your body with nutrients that improve your health. School builds your brain and also gives you a chance to figure out how to exist with friends and teachers.

God is a fan of school. The Bible talks about how important it is to pursue learning, to gain knowledge, to find wisdom, and to team up with other smart, good people. In a nutshell, that’s school. And he wants us to do our best. He doesn’t care if we’re number one in class or if we win all the awards—he just wants us to focus on doing our personal best every day. That’s what matters!

As you think about this year, plan for how you’ll study more, get better at math, or learn how to conjugate verbs. And also plan for how you’ll look for God at school and how you’ll find ways to share his love with others. Be kind. Make friends. Respect your teachers. And gear up for a great year.

DO

Have you heard the theme song to the old movie Rocky? (Who hasn’t?) Find it on YouTube if you don’t know it.

As you listen to or remember the song, picture yourself returning to school. Where will you be strong? Where will you train to get better? How will you be a friend to the kids around you?

You’re a champion in the making! Now get ready for school!

PRAY

Dear God,

Thank you for making school possible for me. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to learn—now and all through life. Please help me be prepared, be kind, and be a good student this school year. Amen.
