Gifts to Give
When they saw the star, they were filled with joy! They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
MATTHEW 2:10-11
THE WISE MEN CAME bearing gifts for Baby Jesus. They wanted to worship him and offer their finest gifts to him. And he was just a baby, born in a humble animal pen. His parents weren’t dignitaries or kings.
We may not have expensive things to give Jesus, but just like the wise men, we can worship him. That’s really our gift to him. We praise him, sing his name, obey his teaching, and read the Bible. Those may seem like humble, simple gifts for the King of the World, but they are exactly what he wants.
We’ll spend this Christmas giving gifts to our family members and sharing the happiness of the season. But as we do, let’s not forget the gifts we can give to Jesus. They are important, even if simple, things. They need to come from the heart. They need to be sincere. But our gifts are important—just as important as the precious gifts the wise men carried across the desert.
DO
Play a slow Christmas song that inspires you. As you listen, close your eyes. Think about how and where Jesus was born. Think of all the ways he’s done amazing things in your life. Praise Jesus and thank him for the many gifts he’s given you.
PRAY
Dear God,
Thank you for the amazing, incredible gift of your Son, Jesus. Thank you for the gifts you give me every day. I praise your name, Jesus. Amen.
