A Peace of Me
I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.
JOHN 16:33
HUMANS WISH FOR PEACE in an unsteady world. We hope for peace in our country, town, schools, and homes. Peace is something we strive for and dream about together.
But there’s another kind of peace—the peace that comes from inside us. When we’re at peace, it means we’re content, okay, and happy. We feel good about things. We know God and our family have our back. We feel satisfied and pleased. Feeling peace is a wonderful thing.
God promises us that even though we’ll go through difficult times in life and we’ll face challenges that may be so hard we don’t know if we can make it through them, he loves us and will give us peace. “Take heart,” he says, “I have overcome the world.” And that’s really it. God has already taken care of everything. Our temporary troubles and worries are real, but in the end, God already has us covered. Knowing that truth provides the most powerful sense of peace we can ever hope for. So despite the problems in the world around us, we can take refuge in God. We can feel confident and content knowing we have the peace that comes from God alone.
DO
Talk to your friends and family. What are the things happening in the world or their community that have them worried or concerned? How can you remember to give your worries to God? Pray together, asking God to give you peace that passes understanding.
PRAY
Dear God,
Thank you for overcoming all my worries and concerns. Thank you for giving me peace, even when I don’t understand the world around me. Please help me remember to take comfort in you. Amen.
