Who Is God?

Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding.

ISAIAH 40:28

WHO IS GOD?

That’s a very big question. If you could sit in a room with God, what do you think he would be like? Would you talk about sports? Would God like jokes? Would you feel like you were in trouble?

We all wonder what it will be like to meet God face to face. But we also don’t have to wonder too much about what God is like, because we get to experience him all the time when we talk to him and see the way he’s working in our lives. He shows himself to us every day. And 1 John 4:8 tells us that God is love.

We can learn a lot about who God is by reading the Bible. There are many places where we get a glimpse of God’s qualities. The Bible tells us God is spirit (John 4:24). It also tells us God is light (1 John 1:5). Isaiah 40:28 tells us God is everlasting. There are so many more descriptions of God that it’s a good idea to dive in and start searching if you want to learn more about who he is.

God wants us to know more about him. He wants us to know what it would be like to sit in that room with him. He wants us to spend time reading about him, talking to and about him, and getting to know him like we would our best friend.

DO

The Bible tells us God created us in his image. Stand in front of a mirror and look at yourself. In what ways do you think God created you in his image? Why? (Hint: take a look at Genesis 1:26-27.)

PRAY

Dear God,

Thank you for showing me who you are every day. Please remind me to pay attention to the way you’re working in my life and in the world around me. Help me look for you in the Bible, too. Amen.
