Bold Enough

I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.

PHILIPPIANS 4:13

DO YOU HAVE GUTS? Are you always fearless, brave, and bold? Probably the answer is no—at least not always. No one is brave and fearless all the time. But we are all brave some of the time. Think about going to the doctor. Do you worry about getting shots? Or wonder if they’re going to poke and prod you? You have to be brave. When you stand up to bullies, you have to have guts. When you tell your friends to stop being rough with your toys, you have to be strong. When you feel unsure about your schoolwork, you have to be bold and turn in your work anyway. Life requires us all to be bold and brave—sometimes many times in one day.

If you ever feel like you’re not brave—you might even feel kind of wimpy at times—you’re not alone. Everyone struggles with fear, anxiety, and nervousness at times. But here’s the thing: God tells us to be bold and brave because he’ll give us strength. So the next time you have to choose whether to be bold or fearful, choose to be bold. Have guts. Don’t be anxious or fearful. Know that whatever the situation, God will give you his strength to get through it.

DO

Think about some of your favorite songs. What one song makes you feel brave, bold, or fearless? Play the song or try to remember it in your head. What is it about that song that gives you a sense of courage? How is that feeling like the one God gives you when you rely on him for courage?

PRAY

Dear God,

Thank you for giving me the courage to face what I need to face every day. Help me remember in every situation that I can be brave, bold, and fearless. Amen.
