The Hurts We Have

He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.

REVELATION 21:4

LIFE CAN BE HARD. We all experience pain. We may have issues with friends that hurt our feelings, or problems with our parents or other adults. We feel pain that makes our hearts sad. It doesn’t matter if you’re young or old or boy or girl, there will be times when others hurt you and do things you don’t understand.

Even when we’re hurting, God is there for us. He will never hurt us. Instead, he’s like a giant comforter—we can wrap ourselves in him and feel relief. God wants to listen to us and help us through the problems we’re having. He tells us that even though there will be pain in this life, there will also be joy. The Bible tells us that God knows our pain, he knows our thoughts, and he knows how we’ll get through it. So don’t hesitate to take problems to him. Don’t worry about crying out to him and asking him to help you. That’s what he wants to do.

Life may not always be perfect. People will let us down. Things will happen that we have no control over. We will face problems that we sometimes don’t know how to solve. But through it all, God knows. We don’t have to explain ourselves to him; we can simply run to him for comfort.

DO

When we’re dealing with a hurt heart, we feel it all over our body. Here is a great way to feel better physically. Stand or sit with your legs in front of you. Close your eyes and focus on relaxing every muscle in your body, starting with your toes. Tell your body to totally relax. Move from your toes to your ankles to your calves and all the way up your body. Breathe slowly and deeply. Go all the way until you reach your scalp. Once your entire body is loose and relaxed, be still like this for at least one minute.

PRAY

Dear God,

Thank you for seeing into my heart and knowing what hurts me. Please help me remember to come to you when I feel hurt, and guide me through those feelings. Amen.
