Decisions, Decisions

Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path.

PROVERBS 4:26

WHAT WAS THE LAST DECISION you had to make? Was it something pretty simple, like which shirt to wear? Or was it more difficult, like whether to do track or basketball? Or maybe something even more difficult than that?

Decisions come up all the time. Most of them don’t carry a lot of weight and we can decide for ourselves. There are some decisions, though, that are much harder to make. They require a lot of thought, sometimes talking with others and gathering information, and prayer. It’s always a good first step to go to God for his wisdom when you face a big decision.

Sometimes you might be facing a decision that can have a very big impact on you or your family. In those cases, be sure you talk to your parents or other adults. Don’t be afraid to be honest about your thoughts. Ask for wisdom from them and from God to help you choose the way to go. Good decisions don’t come from sloppy research—they come when we know the pros and cons of each choice and we understand how our decision lines up with our faith.

DO

At the bottom of this page, draw a simple “This or That?” picture of a decision you recently faced or are facing now. Show one choice and the other choice. How might talking to God affect your choice? Circle the choice you made or think you should make.

PRAY

Dear God,

Thank you for giving me wisdom to make good decisions. Please help me remember when I’m faced with hard choices that I can go to you and the adults in my life for help. Amen.
