New Skin

This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!

2 CORINTHIANS 5:17

HAVE YOU EVER HAD the best night of sleep ever and woke up thinking you felt like a new person? That’s the best, isn’t it? You yawn, stretch, and step out of bed into the new day. You’re refreshed, brand new, and ready to take on the world.

This feeling is the same way we feel when we become followers of Jesus. The Bible tells us we become new people. Our old ways and behaviors transform because Jesus transforms our hearts. We want to please and obey him. And we know that Jesus wipes away our sins. They’re gone. We can let go of bad memories and thoughts about the wrong things we’ve done and enjoy being free because we know we’re forgiven.

Becoming a new person in Jesus is the greatest thing in the world! And isn’t that an amazing thing to share with others? Every day we get to wake up feeling refreshed and ready to take on the world, knowing that Jesus set us free.

DO

Go to your closet and find an old, raggedy piece of clothing—the oldest, most worn-out one you have. Put it on, even if it barely fits. What do you notice about the way it feels and looks? How do you feel wearing it? Would you wear it to a party? Why or why not?

Now put on your newest piece of clothing or shoes. What’s different about the way it feels and looks? How do you feel wearing it? Would you wear it when you go out? How is changing into something brand new like what happens when Jesus makes us new?

PRAY

Dear God,

Thank you for making me a new person in you. Thank you for wiping away my sins. Please remind me to face the world knowing I’m a new person thanks to you. Amen.
