Totally Awesome Teachers

Students are not greater than their teacher. But the student who is fully trained will become like the teacher.

LUKE 6:40

HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT how much teachers do for you? Teachers spend many hours figuring out ways to help you learn, showing you how to be kind and well-behaved, and doing a lot more than just teaching. They work really hard. It’s easy to forget that. It’s even easy to forget that teachers are people just like us. They have families, pets, bills, homes, cars, worries, and joys just like we do.

Teachers can have a big impact on you. One day, you might become an architect because a math teacher inspired you. Or you might become a master carpenter because you had a great woodshop teacher. You might even want to become a teacher, thanks to your teachers.

God reminds us to respect our teachers, to listen to them, and to open our ears to what they say. Good teachers can have an impact on us that lasts a lifetime. It’s up to us to be willing to learn, to ask questions, and to do the work it takes. Your teachers believe in your abilities. They know you’ll learn so much in even just one year. Let’s thank God for teachers!

DO

Sing or listen to one of your favorite songs. Now think about these questions: How do you think the person who wrote or performed this song knew how to do it? How long do you think he or she had to study music to get this good at it? How many music teachers do you guess the person had? Why do you think teachers teach? What would our world be like if we had no teachers?

PRAY

Dear God,

Thank you for my wonderful teachers. Thank you for all the ways my teachers help me and for all the work they do. Please bless my teachers and keep them healthy and happy. Remind me to let them know how grateful I am for them. Amen.
