AN ENCHANTMENT UNDER THE SEA PARTY

IN THE 1985 CLASSIC FILM BACK TO THE FUTURE, Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) time-travels to 1955 and crashes the ocean-themed Enchantment Under the Sea dance (shown here) where his parents shared their first kiss. Dances of Vice, a high-end entertainment production company in New York City, once created an updated version of the romantic blue-lit, sparkling party—and you can, too. Think blue and white helium balloons, long strands of tinsel in silver and metallic blue, romantic—and flattering—blue lighting, and trash bags cut to look like seaweed strips. In the original film, giant clamshells make an appearance; the truly dedicated can rent or order them online, while the budget-challenged can order inflatable ones for that extra bit of ocean flash. Keep your eyes peeled for theater-prop sales, too; if a local theater has put on a production set by or at sea, you might even score an old-time mermaid tank or other cool aquatic props.
