MY MUMMA

On Mother’s Day this year, I honoured my mum and gave thanks for all the lessons I’ve learnt under her ‘daughter-hood’.

Although I was honouring a parent, I was also honouring what it is to be a mother and the energy that’s cultivated from it. So, while I was honouring Jan Kendall, I was also honouring the feminine aspect in each of us – men included.

As discussed earlier in the book, according to Tantric Yoga philosophy, we all have a feminine and masculine energy and although my mum can seem to take on the role of the masculine sometimes (she’s fiery, active and was most certainly the disciplinarian out of the two of my parents), on this day, I decided to honour her feminine side. The side that really made me feel cared for and loved. Unconditionally.

This is part of what I wrote in a blog post dedicated to her.

To celebrate and honour my own mother (who, by the way, sacrificed so damn much), here are a few words:

Thank you for sharing and teaching your adventurous spirit, fun-loving attitude and the belief that you’re never too old to be a kid.

I love you more than you can know and every time I think of you I count my lucky stars and thank you for all that you sacrificed so that I could have so many incredible opportunities. I like to think they paid off and that I’ve made you proud.

You taught me the importance of good work ethics and that ‘a job worth doing is worth doing well’; that a bag of Liquorice Allsorts is a delight; and to hold my breath when the Sydney Swans are in a tight game.

Biggest of love, Mumma, your Kate.

I concluded the post with this:

May each day feel like Mother’s Day. Be kind to yourself. If you don’t, no one else will.
