We Are Nowhere and It’s Now

“The concept of bipolarity, even if not the main subject of a song, is often encountered somewhere in the atmosphere of Bright Eyes’s work. I like the song ‘We Are Nowhere and It’s Now’ in particular, because the ideas surrounding chemicals and drugs are portrayed along with a lot of simple but really truthful realizations about life. For me, the song shows that living life through a lot of ups and downs can be hard, but that it can also be meaningful and allows a person to reach higher levels of wisdom through careful thought.

I wanted to create this idea of a life lived in a kind of maze or on a rollercoaster, with the sentence ‘Enjoy the Ride’ being there in an inviting, ludic way, but in a manner that could also be interpreted as cynical or sarcastic.”
