“I really love Daniel Johnston’s music. I wanted to make an image that connected to the childlike sound of his voice at the same time as referencing the sophisticated way the song is built. I wanted the sun to be a sort of sinister guiding presence that Daniel trusts and is suspicious of at the same time. I thought it best to show Daniel in his natural environment, at his piano in his studio with all his things around him, and the sun to be representative of the temptation of fame and fortune creeping up on him as he works.”
