Day 42:  Do You Have a Booby Hatch?

The booby hatch on a ship is useful for when the decks are awash. Because of its small opening and raised frame, it keeps water from entering below deck.

When we accepted Christ as our personal Savior, he placed a booby hatch over our soul. It’s there to protect us from Satan’s attacks.

But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one (2 Thessalonian 3:3 NKJV).

As long as we have the protection of that booby hatch, we will be able to withstand wave after wave. But the hatch does have that small opening, so Satan will always try to sneak inside. He is going to throw everything he can at you, especially when you are a new believer. He is deceptive, and he knows all the tricks. But guess what? God knows more. God knows every move Satan makes, even before he makes them. Satan is no match for God. So, Satan may be able to distract us or try to fool us at times, but he will never be able to remove our hatch.

When Christ sacrificed His life for us, He made it impossible for that hatch to be removed once it was placed over our soul. We are joined with Him forever. No matter how many waves cover us, water will not pour in; there will be only small puddles, and we can handle that.

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it (1 Corinthians 10:13 NIV).

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you (James 4:7 NIV).

Jesus defeated Satan on the cross, and in doing so He gave us the power to resist Satan and make him flee. We need not fear Satan’s pitiful “splashes,” because we have Christ on our side, and He will keep any and all water at bay. At times, we may feel like the hatch is getting loose, but that is only Satan trying to confuse us. So, once we have that booby hatch safely and securely put in place, we can rest assure that it will never be removed.

How great is that?
