Pitter patter, the raindrops slowly begin to hit the deck of the ship. The smell of rain in the air is refreshing and relaxing. After a long, hard day, all you want to do is lie in your hammock and listen to those raindrops.
When I was younger, I remember living with my grandparents for a short time. My sisters and I had to sleep in our grandparents’ bed together. It was winter, and the bedroom was basically a renovated porch. We would lie in bed and listen to the rain pitter patter on the metal roof. The room smelled like rain, and we had to snuggle because it was also cold.
Because of those fond memories, I am at peace whenever I hear the rain. It makes me feel as though God is washing away all of my problems, or at least allowing me to forget them for a short time. God gives each of us peace in different ways. One person may feel peace in the rain, another in the sunshine and others may need someone with whom to talk.
Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you (2 Thessalonians 3:16 NIV).
I still love to listen to the rain, to smell it and snuggle when it’s cold. Of course, instead of my sisters I now snuggle with my husband and two dogs. But that same peaceful feeling is there.
We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure (Hebrews 6:19 NIV).
Whenever I get totally stressed, and I feel as though there is a storm raging all around me, I close my eyes and let Jesus embrace me. I imagine Him holding me and making my stress wash away—just like those raindrops. Like I tell people all the time, whenever you are going through a bad time, just let Jesus hold you. He has the best bear hugs!
I not only feel peace when it rains, I also feel safe. I know that my Heavenly Father is raining His love down on me.
What gives you peace? What makes you feel secure? Whatever your answer may be, remember that both come from God. Close your eyes and open your heart. No matter what you may be going through, trust that God is right beside you. He will never leave you or forsake you.
The next time you feel God’s peace and security, remember to thank Him for His loving kindness, and for His Daddy bear hug.
