Out at sea, when you find yourself lost, you can send out an SOS. Eventually, you will be found and brought to safety. In life, when you find yourself lost, you can send up an SOS to Christ. He knows where you are, and He will save you.
Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell (Matthew 10:28 NIV).
When Jesus sent out the Twelve, He gave them a lot of instructions. This particular verse stands out as a powerful statement. Jesus is pretty much telling the disciples that no matter what they say or do, they had better not cross Him. Nothing and no one here on earth can harm us more than God Himself. Our lives are worth nothing. It’s our souls that matter and only God can save or destroy our souls.
I honestly don’t think the majority of Christians today ever really consider this statement in their spiritual walk. Their day-to-day living is so filled with worldly influence that God sometimes gets lost in it all. The main problem is focus, or rather not focusing on what matters most.
Show me, O LORD, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting is my life (Psalm 39:4 NIV).
When we are young, we can’t even imagine dying one day. There is too much to look forward to, so why waste time thinking about life ending? As time passes, we realize just how little time we have here on earth. We begin to wonder where our lives are headed and how long we actually do have.
We need to take to heart the fact that our lives will end one day. And in order to have eternal life with Christ, we must truly live our lives for Him. Our souls belong to Him to do with how He wishes.
Our eternal lives are in His hands. So, what are you going to do about it? Are you going to go on living your life like you’ll live forever, or are you going to start living knowing that you are going to die one day. Trust me, when you know that one day “every knee will bow” before Christ, it will totally change the way you think about eternity.
