Three Sheets to the Wind—1. having the sheets of the three lower courses loose on a three-masted ship will result in the ship meandering aimlessly downwind. 2. a sailor who has drunk strong spirits beyond his capacity.
The battle for your soul is on! It is a tough battle, and at times you may feel like you are being pulled in a thousand different directions. You need to choose a side to stand on; but which side do you choose?
Let me ask you this: Who is in control of your life? It is either Jesus or Satan. The side of redemption or the side of eternal damnation. You may think that you are in control, but you are not. The only thing you control is whom you choose to follow. You had better choose wisely, for your eternal soul is at stake.
Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires (Romans 8:5 NIV).
Satan is like the three sheets that get blown the wrong way and the alcohol that consumes you. He makes your life completely chaotic; you have no sense of belonging and you are totally lost. When you allow him to be a part of your life, he will try to take complete control. He knows your weaknesses and will use them against you.
Verse 8: Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God.
Once Satan has control, it is very difficult to be free of him. There is only one solution. You must give your life over to Christ. Let Him steer your life. He will give you purpose and meaning. His “sheets” will steer your ship on a straight course. And when the storms of life come, He will be there to calm them. He also knows your weaknesses, but He will make you stronger through those weaknesses. He will blow Satan out of the waters of your life!
Verse 9: You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.
So, I ask again, who is in control of your life? If you do not have an answer, then it is not Christ. If that is the case, I suggest you search deep inside and choose a side.
FYI: The winning side is Christ.
