Day 118:  Christ Our Anchor

He leads me beside quiet waters (Psalm 23:2b NIV).

How long must I wait, Lord?

Where are You, Lord?

Sound familiar?

When my husband lost his job, we not only lost his paycheck, we also lost our health insurance. As I am writing this, six months later, he still has not found a job. We have had several medical issues with me and our pet since then. It would be so easy for us to start questioning God, to keep nagging Him. But that would be futile. We need to be patient and trust God to show us what to do.

A great example of patience and faith is Abraham. It took twenty-five years for God to fulfill His promise to Abraham. Yet, Abraham trusted God to fulfill that promise. Twenty-five years is half a lifetime for most people today. Would we have the patience and faith to wait that long?

For when God made a promise to Abraham, because He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself, saying, “Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you.” And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise (Hebrews 6:13–15 NKJV).

Like Abraham, we can have a hope in Christ.

Now we have this hope as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul [it cannot slip and it cannot break down under whoever steps out upon it—a hope] that reaches farther and enters into [the very certainty of the Presence] within the veil, Where Jesus has entered in for us [in advance], a Forerunner having become a High Priest forever after the order (with the rank) of Melchizedek (Hebrews 6:19–20 AMP).

A forerunner is a small boat that carries a large ship’s anchor inside a harbor and drops it in a good spot among the deep sand and rocks so that it takes a firm hold and keeps the ship in place.

Christ is our runner boat. He takes our anchor into port and secures it. He is our anchor, holding us firm.

In Psalm 40:1 David said:

I waited patiently for the LORD to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry (Psalm 40:1 NLT).

So, rest assured, you will make it to port, in God’s time. God has His reasons for making us wait and we just need to trust Him.
