Day 122:  We All Need a Balanced Helm

Wouldn’t it be great if we had a special compass that would help us navigate through life? A compass that always pointed us in the right direction? There are so many confusing paths in life from which to choose. Some lead to darkness and others lead to light. If only we knew the right one to take each time . . . if only we had a special compass.

Of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid (Psalm 27:1 NIV)?

But we do have a compass. Our compass is our Father God, His Spirit and His Word.

Satan, the destroyer, will try to lead us down the wrong path. But God will be there to spoil all of his plans. He will help us to stand up against Satan and lead us to life’s treasures. He will light our paths so that the darkness does not overpower us.

He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the LORD is the key to this treasure (Isaiah 33:6 NIV).

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well (Matthew 6:33 NIV).

Navigating rough waters can be very treacherous. Sometimes the enemy attacks us from both sides! We need to put complete trust in the Savior, to trust that He will protect us and supply all that we need.

There the LORD will be our Mighty One. It will be like a place of broad rivers and streams. No galley with oars will ride them, no mighty ship will sail them (Isaiah 33:21 NIV).

Those who do not look to God will find their ships wrecked upon the shores and their graves in the deep waters.

Your rigging hangs loose: The mast is not held secure, the sail is not spread. Then an abundance of spoils will be divided and even the lame will carry off plunder (Isaiah 33:23 NIV).

So, we need to stay our course and carry our compass with us whenever we venture out. The treasures to be found, especially the ultimate treasure, will be so much more than we can imagine.

Onward we go with God, our compass, in hand!
