“Twinkle, twinkle, little star, how I wonder what you are . . .”
I used to sing this to my grandson when he was a baby to help him fall asleep. He loved how I would make motions with my fingers like they were stars twinkling.
When we look into the sky at night we expect to see the moon and the stars. When we wake up in the morning, we expect to see the sun. And yes, if the sky is clear, we see them. But not because we expect them to be there. They are there because God chose to put them there.
It always amazes me how a lot of people curse God when a weather disaster happens, yet they do not thank Him for the calm weather.
I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life (Genesis 9:13–15 NIV).
What if God had decided not to put that rainbow in the sky? What if He had decided to destroy all creation again? It’s something to think about as we live our lives under His sun, His moon and His stars. We need to truly thank God for the days that are sunny and bright and also for the days that are not.
We are so lucky that God has kept His promise. This world has become so corrupt that I believe He would not hesitate to destroy it and start all over again. But because of His promise, all mankind has a chance to change its ways and turn to God. Whenever we see a rainbow, we need to remember that promise and thank God for keeping it.
Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory (Matthew 24:30 NIV).
Yes, the Lord controls the sun, the moon, the stars and the weather. Whenever I look up and see clouds in the sky, I like to think of the fact that one day our Lord will be returning in the clouds. In all His Glory!
