Day 148:  Go Ahead, Rock the Boat!

Rocking the boat can be dangerous, unless that “boat” is your spiritual walk with God.

Many Christians have become too comfortable in their walk with the Lord. Things are going their way; and to keep it that way, they don’t move forward. They stop rowing. Why rock the boat, right?

Well, I will tell you why they need to rock the boat. Because if they stay still, who are they truly living for? Certainly not God. To live for God means you are constantly learning and constantly moving. True, if you keep moving forward, you will hit some snags now and then. But you have to keep moving forward and not backward; and you certainly should not be standing still.

Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever (Daniel 12:3 NIV).

We must not become idle in our walk. We must stay busy working for the Lord so that we do not sin. It is way too easy to fall into the trap of idleness. It is comfortable and easy. No one bothers you. But this is not God’s will.

We hear that some among you are idle. They are not busy; they are busybodies (2 Thessalonians 3:11 NIV).

Now, I ask you: If you stand still in your walk with God, how can you lead others to Him? God is counting on you to help others in their walk, to guide them. You can’t be selfish and keep God all to yourself.

Has God put someone special on your heart? Do you need to move forward to help that person? Are you afraid of rocking the boat? Give it to God and trust that He will never put you in a situation that you cannot handle.

So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall! No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it (1 Corinthians 10:12–13 NIV).

God has never let you down. He is counting on you, so don’t let Him down.
