Day 158:  Deserted Island

If you were stranded on a deserted island, what one thing would you want with you?

I asked my husband this question, and he said exactly what I expected him to say. He said he would want me with him. Although that is a very sweet answer, I know he said it only to please me. When you think about the question, really think about it, a more logical answer would be fresh water, food, or perhaps a boat.

When it comes to trying to please someone, logic goes out the window. The saying love is blind is true to a point. Yet, when it comes to God and love, we are all blind in a way. He loves us so much that He gave His only Son to atone for our sins.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16 NIV).

Now that’s love! And we need to return that love. We need to do all we can to please Him and not others.

Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ (Galatians 1:10 NIV).

Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God and receive from him anything we ask, because we obey his commands and do what pleases him (1 John 3:21–22 NIV).

I love my husband with all my heart, but I love God with all my soul. When I asked my husband the question, I thought of my own answer. I would want my Bible with me. I guess I figured God would provide everything else that I would need.

May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen (Hebrews 13:20–21 NIV).

Sometimes, you may feel like you are on a deserted island all alone. But you are never alone! God is always right there beside you. He will never leave you or forsake you. He will love you and care for you all the days of your life.
