FUDGY BROWNIES

Easy to make whenever you get an urge for a chocolate treat!

1¼ dozen brownies (1 each)

6 tablespoons margarine or butter

4 ounces unsweetened chocolate

⅓ cup each: fat-free milk, apricot spreadable fruit

1 egg yolk

1 teaspoon vanilla

½ cup all-purpose flour

10¾ teaspoons Equal® for Recipes or 36 packets Equal® sweetener

½ teaspoon baking powder

⅛ teaspoon salt

3 egg whites

⅛ teaspoon cream of tartar

½ cup coarsely chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

1. Heat margarine, chocolate, milk, and spreadable fruit in small saucepan, stirring frequently, until chocolate is melted. Remove from heat; stir in egg yolk and vanilla. Mix in combined flour, Equal® for Recipes, baking powder, and salt.

2. Beat egg whites and cream of tartar to stiff, but not dry, peaks in medium bowl; fold chocolate mixture into egg whites. Fold in walnuts, if using. Pour batter into greased 8-inch square baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees until brownies are firm to touch and toothpick comes out clean, 18 to 20 minutes (do not overbake). Cool on wire rack. Serve warm or at room temperature.
