Part Six
Aches & Pains

AKA Technique & Movement Problems

“These fingers of mine, they got brains in ’em. You don’t tell them what to do – they do it.”

Jerry Lee Lewis

There have been many books, articles, papers and theses written on the subject of piano technique and I’m not about to add another. To attempt to tackle the debates of elbows in or out, or any of the other minutia of how to physically play the piano, is beyond the scope of this book and is not what you came here for. What I will try to give you in this section of The Piano Practice Physician’s Handbook is help in solving the most common piano technique issues found in piano students.

One of the goals of this book is that you will never again feel like you are “nagging” your student about the same thing over and over. This has never been truer than in the technique practice section. I hope that you will cease from this point forward to have to say “Curved fingers please!” numerous times in one lesson, and probably several dozen times in one day.
