About the Author

John H. Rosser (Ph.D. Byzantine History, Rutgers University) recently retired from the Department of History, Boston College, where he had taught since 1971. He has written numerous articles and monographs on topics related to the history and archeology of medieval Greece and Cyprus. His archeological research has included the excavation of a Byzantine farmstead and church at Nichoria in southern Greece. He has also done archeological reconnaissance in Greece: behind Thermopylae and in Macedonia (in the region of Grevena). In Paphos, Cyprus, he worked with A. H. S. Megaw as associate director in the excavation of one of the most important medieval monuments in Cyprus, the Crusader castle called Saranda Kolones (40 Columns). He presently lives on a farm in Maryland, where he and his wife have built a house.
