I’ve never found evidence that Theodore Roosevelt purchased land to set aside for Alice. Most of what’s in the novel is a work of fiction, which means that I made most of it up in my head to fit the story.
I honor him as a wonderful President, who propelled us on the journey of our National Parks system and holding the land dear to our hearts. It’s the one true thing, that we as Americans, did right.
