Panzerkampfwagen VI Tiger Ausf.E
This Tiger is from Großdeutschland Panzergrenadier Division which was attached to the 2nd SS Das Reich Division and has a camouflage scheme of dark sand base RAL 7028 with stripes of olive green RAL 6003 and brown RAL 6003. The Tiger I was regarded as the backbone of the Panzerwaffe. It was well built and well armed, but it was expensive and labour-intensive to build. It also had track problems, a short range and high fuel consumption. In spite of this, the vehicle was generally mechanically reliable, powerful, and successful against Soviet armour. The Tiger I had impressive frontal hull and turret armour 100mm thick and a 120mm-thick gun mantlet making it very difficult to knock out for either anti-tank artillery or tank rounds. It was armed with a 56-calibre-long 8.8cm KwK 36. (Tom Cooper)
Panzerkampfwagen Tiger Ausf.B (Königstiger)
This Tiger is from Stab Schwere Panzer-Abteilung 501 and is shown during the defence of Berlin in April 1945. It has a camouflage scheme of dark sand base RAL 7028 with broken stripes of olive green RAL 6003. The Tiger II was the successor to the Tiger I, combining the latter’s thick armour with the armour sloping used on the Panther medium tank. It weighed almost 70 tons and was protected by 100–185mm of armour to the front. It was armed with the long barrelled 8.8cm KwK 43 L/71 anti-tank cannon. It was issued to heavy tank battalions of both the regular army and the Waffen-SS and was first used in combat with Schwere Panzer Abteilung 503 for defensive actions in Normandy in July 1944.
