Thirty minutes later, they arrived at the warehouse that had a state trooper on foot guarding the main entrance and another one in the patrol vehicle, as the driver drove up in the unmarked car he lowered his window and the state trooper walked over to him.
As he approached, he immediately noticed the colonel in the back and leant forward to the driver’s window and said, “Sir we have been expecting you, I will have the gates opened for you.”
Wayne Rochester replied, “thank you trooper.”
Five minutes later Walter Smith was walking around the interior of the warehouse whilst Wayne stood back out of his way.
The deputy director walked slowly around the area occasionally bending down and peering beneath objects on one occasion Wayne noticed he used a pen to flick something out of a crevice in a corner and picked it up on the end of his pen and examined the small object close to his eyes.
With the overhead lighting illuminating the warehouse, Wayne caught a glint off the small object as the deputy director turned it around on the pens end and he immediately knew what it was.
The deputy director pulled out a clear plastic evidence bag from his jacket pocket and placed the object into it and then put it in his jacket pocket.
Wayne watched as the deputy director continued his walk around the enclosure and a few minutes later he re-joined Wayne who asked him, “find anything that could help with your investigation sir?”
Walter Smith evaded the question but asked one himself, “What sort of weapons did the guards here have colonel?”
“They certainly were not American sir, we have them secured back at HQ, I am sure one of my staff will be happy to answer that question for you.”
“I can see that you followed protocol and swept the area of casings, are they also back at your HQ?”
“Certainly sir, they are with the weapons.”
“Thank you colonel, I would like to see the bodies now and then I will examine the weapons.”
“I will have my driver take us to the police mortuary that is located at our headquarters where the bodies are awaiting autopsies, sir.”
