At Rutgers University, Dr. Barry Komisaruk, author of The Science of Orgasm, and his team of neuroscience researchers are studying women’s orgasms with fMRI (functional magnetic resonance imaging) machines. Some women come by clitoral stimulation, others through stimulating their G-spots with a dildo, and still others through multiple forms of stimulation. A few women can “think off”—achieve a “no hands” orgasm through fantasy (and perhaps PC flexing?) alone. Women with spinal cord injuries and no feeling below the waist have orgasms, achieved through what Komisaruk describes as a “new pathway,” bypassing the spine completely. This orgasm takes a detour on the vast vagus nerve network. The vagus nerves wander throughout the body—like vagabonds—and go straight to the brain.
All these orgasms look the same in the brain, which does not differentiate between “clitoral,” “thinking off,” or blended orgasms or any other type of orgasm. An orgasm is an orgasm in the brain, where the real sex magic happens. That is science.
If you can’t afford an fMRI machine in your bedroom, go online and find graphics of your brain on orgasm. Then go to photobucket.com (the source for most of the photos illustrating SexyPrime posts) and check out the electric photographs. Now imagine your brain on orgasm—and draw it in neon markers for your lover.
