Anal Intercourse Positions

The three basic anal intercourse positions are rear entry, female superior, and missionary. My colleague Tristan Taormino’s book, The Anal Sex Position Guide, has many variations on the basics—and much other good information on what works depending on your experience with anal sex, his penis size, and other factors. The receiver should control the depth and speed of penetration no matter which position they choose.

Rear Entry

This one you usually see in porn films. She gets down on all fours and he stands or kneels behind.

Advantages: He has a great view of her ass and she (or he) has easy access to her clitoris.

Potential disadvantage: He might thrust too vigorously.

Female Superior

He lies down; she straddles him and lowers herself onto his penis.

Advantage: She is in control.

Potential disadvantage: She may be so reluctant to lower herself onto him (fearing pain) that penetration takes a long time.

Missionary

She lies on her back as he kneels in front of her. She draws her knees up, putting her feet against his chest.

Advantages: She is in a good position for control.

Potential disadvantage: Some women experience the penetration as being fuller and deeper—and more uncomfortable—in this position.
