The Ten Erotic Commandments (according to Thomas Moore)

1. Ethics— Treat your partner honestly, respectfully, and kindly. It’s as simple as that.

2. Partnership— Sex is a union of persons, not only bodies.

3. Vision— A spiritual person has a broad transcendent vision, beyond self.

4. Contemplation— Steady, calm progress to a state that is tranquil and otherworldly.

5. Ritual— The sacred habits of sex (see Spiritual Sundays).

6. Generosity— The great virtue in sex.

7. Beauty— Sex has a lot to do with appreciating the beauty of the human body and the person.

8. Prayer— Prayer takes many forms.

9. Devotion— To one another and to your sexuality.

10. Community— Spirituality involves reaching beyond the self. Sex is quite private, but a good sex life can help make a good community.
