372. Jean Clouet (1480-1541), French,
François I, King of France, c. 1530.
Oil on panel, 96 x 74 cm. Musée du Louvre, Paris.
This portrait attributed to Jean Clouet reveals the influence of the School of Fontainebleau and of the realism of the Flemish school. The painter paid particular attention to the depiction of the costume and golden chain of the sitter, sumptuously dressed in Italian fashion.
