A Word From the Head Teacher of Stepping Stones

by Melissa Farnham

How humbling to sit and write this short piece from the very room where Sir Arthur Conan Doyle composed such literary success. I feel that if a time machine were to bring his good self to the present, here today, he would be sitting across from me with a smile upon his face, emanating gratification and thanks . . . .

“Thank you for bringing my home to life again; a home where I could fulfil my passion and write. I can see a host of staff members that also have a passion, a passion to ensure that every young person now here, has an equal chance in life by way of academic endeavour and social grace.”

Society has not changed so much and neither has Undershaw. The enhancements that have come merely bring back to life an inspiring part of the Surrey landscape, whilst now accommodating aspirational young people to work and develop to become the changing faces of society. These/those young people that some have said “won’t get there” are, thanks to this wonderful legacy, really achieving their true potential under our watch.
