Phil Hudgins has worked as a reporter, editor, and publisher at several newspapers for more than fifty years. He retired as senior editor for Community Newspapers Inc. of Athens, Georgia, where he coached writers at CNI newspapers in three Southern states. He was a 1974 Nieman Fellow at Harvard University, where one of his studies was folklore. He and his wife, Shirley, have two daughters and four grandchildren. Former residents of Rabun County, Georgia, where Phil served on Foxfire’s community board, they now live in Gainesville, Georgia, in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
A student at Piedmont College in Demorest, Georgia, where she is pursuing a degree in dermatology, Jessica Phillips is the recipient of the 2017 Julia W. Fleet Foundation’s Foxfire scholarship. Foxfire has been a part of her life since she was a little girl, when her parents would tell her stories from the books and magazine.
