Chapter 29

LOLA’S FATHER WAS STILL a frog, but with the right potion, they were able to keep him speaking. Lola wouldn’t have a traditional father, but they could converse and bond. It wasn’t the same, but it was all Lola had ever known. She still considered it a win having her father back in her life.

On hearing of Mindy’s arrest and what happened, Lola was finally able to let go of the anger and pain, and mourn her mother properly. No matter what she did to her father, she’d always been there for her as a mother.

Katy took her under her wing and checked in on her time to time. She was glad to hear Lola intended to finish her studies. Her father encouraged her to keep going and not to let go of her dreams of opening a veterinarian practice.

When Alex came back from his vacation, he came back a new man...er, spirit. Whatever had worn him down had vanished and he was back to his fun-loving self. He’d sworn off the tequila, but he never said anything about wine or beer, or even vodka.

Valentine worked out perfectly and finally filled the slot that Jessi left behind. Katy even realized she didn’t mind having her mother around as much as she did previously. They worked out a plan that her mom would work two days of the week, a weekend and a weekday, and fill-in when needed. A little mom went a long way.

Katy sat down after placing dinner on the table. She smiled lovingly at her husband.

“What? Do I have something on my face?” he asked.

“No, not at all,” she answered, and picked up a slice of pizza which Fritz brought home from work.

Chip took a bite of pizza and frowned. “Is this low-fat cheese? Whose idea was this?”

Katy shrugged. “You said no low-fat mayo, this isn’t mayo. It’s cheese.”

Chip grumbled. “I like pizza better when I order it.”
