CONCLUSION

Over the years I have learned that the more I know, the more I don’t know. One bit of knowledge leads to another question, and so on and so forth. In the time that I have owned Captain Grant’s, my life has taken dramatic turns. My belief system has been hit hard with new truths. I have had to look at my past and accept that I was not always in charge. What I do have is a strong belief in my faith. That has led me to look at what I have learned about the paranormal as stemming from a higher power. I also believe that most individuals accept that there is a higher power. We don’t all agree on just what or who that is. My beliefs about the paranormal don’t always match those of other researchers, but that is research. We keep going until we have the truth.

I continue to run Captain Grant’s with my husband Tadashi. Paranormal events occur on almost a daily basis. Most of these are not worth mentioning. There may be a tap at a guest’s door when no one is there or a depression in the mattress while someone is in bed. Maybe a statue is found in a different room from where it should be. Our guests are usually very satisfied with what they experience. For many it is just orbs. Only on rare occasions will a guest be angry that they didn’t have an experience. Most of those who still haven’t had a paranormal experience plan to come back and hope to have one in the future.

The bed and breakfast is like a big family. We’ve seen people get engaged, get married, and then have children who grow up and go to college. We have been at this for twenty-two years. The spirits that surround us have begun to feel like friends. Even our repeat guests will ask about Adelaide or Deborah Adams. Neither my husband nor I have ever been afraid of the spirits. We have shaken our heads in disbelief, looked for explanations when there were none, and kept quiet when a guest has a Hollywood belief in the afterlife—the “Friday the Thirteenth” sort of useless knowledge that only scares people and leads nowhere. It is entertaining for those who like to be scared out of their wits.

I still continue to hold ghost communication lessons if a guest requests one. It is a gift that I have and I enjoy sharing it. I have conquered my hesitation in talking about the spirits. I listen to myself and say, “You really believe in what you have learned.” And I do.

Tadashi and I are going to continue to run Captain Grant’s. We enjoy our guests (family) and spend as much time as we can with them. The spirit world is the hottest topic of conversation around the breakfast table. It even beats politics.

I have learned a lot from psychics, sensitives, and many other individuals who know there is another world out there that we can’t see. I enjoy spending time with them and hearing their views. Most of them agree on what I have shared with them about the bed and breakfast, often saying, “You are right. I sense that as well.”

Now, in my later years, I know that my life has been guided by spirits.
