Obituary of Pritchard Daviess
After a surprisingly brief amount of research, I was able to locate Pritchard’s obituary in The Rinky-Dink Chronicler-Anthem at the time of his and Zippy’s passing in 1822. The text of the obituary is as follows:
Daviess, Pritchard O.G.—Passed away during the night in the throes of a coughing fit brought on by old age and a mild dust allergy. Daviess was attended at his deathbed by several friends, relatives, and felines, both old and young, as he left this life to join the next. Daviess' escapades are well known in this area, as he and his small horse animal were both raised in Rinky-Dink and often wintered here.
You couldn't say Daviess was an ill-tempered man. In fact, he was quite the opposite. Although infuriatingly dull, Daviess will be remembered by those who knew him as one of the kindest and most devoted men to "surf," as he put it, through the earth.
In his final moments, Daviess beckoned for his small horse companion to be brought near. They passed away in each other's embrace when Death—and the representatives of several debt collection agencies—came for them. Daviess' last words were, "Is that you, Yimmy? What are you holding? Zippy, it’s Smoodge! And she’s had more li’l Smoodges!” With that meaningless nonsense, Daviess and his tiny horse thing were no more.
