Enhances national security by destroying chemical weapons stockpiles at the U.S. Army Pueblo Chemical Depot (Colorado) and Blue Grass Army Depot (Kentucky) in a safe and environmentally sound manner.

DESCRIPTION

Established by Congressional legislation in 1996, Program Executive Officer, Assembled Chemical Weapons Alternatives (PEO ACWA) reports directly to the Under Secretary of Defense (Acquisition, Technology & Logistics) through the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Nuclear, Chemical & Biological Defense Programs) and is responsible for pilot testing selected alternative technologies and accelerating destruction of the chemical weapons stockpiles located at U.S. Army Pueblo Chemical Depot (PCD) Pueblo, CO and Blue Grass Army Depot (BGAD), Richmond, KY. PEO ACWA is specifically responsible for managing the construction, systemization, operation and closure, and any contracting related of the Pueblo Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant (PCAPP) and the Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant (BGCAPP). Contractor of the PCAPP facility is 96 percent complete while the BGCAPP facility is 54 percent complete.
