Serves as the Army’s primary source in supporting Soldier’s information dominance objectives by developing, implementing and managing commercial information technology contracts that provide enterprise-wide, net-centric hardware, software and support services for the Army.
Computer Hardware, Enterprise Software and Solutions (CHESS) provides a no-fee flexible procurement strategy through which an Army user may procure commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) information technology (IT) hardware, software and services that adhere to DoD and Army standards. CHESS contracts provide continuous vendor competition and consolidation of requirements to leverage the Army’s buying power. CHESS is also the Army’s Enterprise Software Initiative (ESI) Software Product Manager (SPM). Responsibilities in this area include: consolidating software requirements and business cases and assisting contracting officers in negotiating, and administering the resulting agreements. CHESS offers the twice yearly Consolidated Buy (CB) with discounts of up to 62 percent off already discounted desktops, notebooks, tablets, slates and peripherals.
