Acquires, deploys, and maintains a worldwide distributed learning system to ensure our nation’s Soldiers receive critical training for mission success.

DESCRIPTION

The Distributed Learning System (DLS) provides a worldwide information technology infrastructure that innovatively combines hardware, software, and telecommunications resources with training facilities and web-based applications to electronically deliver course content for training of Soldiers and Department of the Army (DA) Civilians anytime, anywhere. DLS uses technology to increase training efficiencies, increase individual and unit readiness, support Soldiers’ career advancement, and improve their quality of life.

DLS provides:

• Access to Army e-Learning, web-based training consisting of more than 5,400 commercial businesses and information technology courses
• Globally located Digital Training Facilities (DTFs) capable of delivering multimedia courseware for individual or group training via computer or video tele-training (VTT)
• Enterprise management of the DLS infrastructure, with customer support for training applications
• The Army Learning Management System (ALMS), for web-based delivery of more than 1,500 multimedia training courses and streamlined, automated training management functions
• Deployed Digital Training Campuses (DDTCs) to deliver multimedia courseware to Soldiers deployed in-theater

• 1QFY12: Upgraded ALMS to ALMS 3.1 software
• 1QFY12-4QFY12: Delivered DDTC to 24 brigade combat teams deploying in Germany, Kuwait, Iraq, and Afghanistan
• 1QFY12-4QFY12: Delivered full-time-equivalent training to more than 300,000 Soldiers using DTFs
• 1QFY12-4QFY12: 10 million ALMS registrations
• 1QFY12-4QFY12: 5.5 million Course completions by ALMS users
• 3QFY12: Completed installation of Virtual Battle Space 2 simulations in 73 DTF sites
• 4QFY12: Produced two DDTCs
