There are many magical, fascinating creatures who live alongside and in the company of fairies, sometimes exclusively in their world but sometimes in ours as well. These creatures each have a sort of cooperative relationship with the fairies; that is to say, they help their fairy companions in some way and receive kindness in return. For instance, it isn’t uncommon for a cloud chaser to cruise the skies on the back of a dragon and for that cloud chaser in turn to present their chosen dragon with sparkling trinkets for its nest or for a small, nervous patch out on the road to be protected by a black dog, who that patch then feeds and shelters in the warmth of its varied and always interesting layers of clothes. In other words, like us, fairies have beloved animal companions, some of whom don’t look that different from our own cats and dogs.
Fairy familiars don’t wear collars or come when called like our pets, but they do have names and love the fairies with whom they share a home or some corner of wilderness. Their personalities are as varied as those of the fairies they accompany, and just as we classified our fairies, we’ve organized the most common types of familiars for you here by habitat.
Of course, much the same as fairies, there are likely far more types of familiars than we are yet aware of, so keep an eye out on your own adventures. Who knows what you’ll discover? Happy spotting!
