We’ve Gone Around
the Distant Moon

image

We’ve gone around the distant moon,
We’ve made a fraught but safe return!
We’ve sent out probes to Mars, and soon
They’ll land on Juno and Saturn.

We’ve planted feet on lunar dust
And sent a station circling earth
We’ve built an eye that sees the past
Going back to the Big Bang birth.

We’ve gone among the asteroids,
To Neptune, Pluto and beyond,
Sent signals to the farthest void
To know when time and space began.

We’ve plumbed the oceans, dark and deep,
And marked where lies the cosmic edge.
We’ve gleaned the atom with a micro-peep…
There’s none too small or far to dredge.

But while we seek worlds to explore
There’s one where we can freshly start…
The most mysterious to its core:
The darkest spaces of the heart.
