The Hubble Space Telescope (HST), one of the largest and most versatile astronomical telescopes ever built, was carried into stationary orbit by Space Shuttle Discovery on April 25, 1990. The Hubble has given us a deep, wide, sweeping view of the universe, opening up to us images and vistas of unimaginable beauty, taking us back to the actual beginning of time and space. This device is a wonderful invention by the human race. But the poem says that despite our ability to discover the wonders of the universe and to reach the farthest galaxies 12 billion light-years away, we still have to find lasting solutions to the many ills that plague the world: global warming, nuclear proliferation, unending wars and poverty.
