Flowers are the crowning glory, quite literally, of the plant kingdom. There are wildflowers in the fields, forests and mountains, and there are flowers grown by gardeners as a hobby or cultivated by horticulturists for the market. Flowers brighten up rooms and spaces, soften up hearts during courtship, are fashioned into bouquets for happy brides or funeral wreaths for the dearly departed, decorate altars, floats and fiesta arches, cure certain kinds of ailments; and in general, flowers gladden, enliven, and bring sweet scents and wonderful colors into our lives.
