DRINK A GLASS OF WATER FIRST THING IN THE MORNING AND RIGHT BEFORE BED

This challenge tip comes straight from my little sister, who happens to be excellent at staying hydrated. She always bookends her days with a glass of water: first thing in the morning before doing anything else, and right before going to sleep. In true sisterly fashion, I started copying her, just to see if it would help me drink more water—and it did, almost shockingly so. I made it part of my routine for a month, like brushing my teeth, and after about four weeks, I really began to feel the difference. I felt thirstier, oddly enough, and I craved that hit of water to kick off or conclude my day. When I woke up and went straight to coffee at work, I hit a wall around 11 a.m. and found myself chugging water before lunch. And when I forgot my water glass downstairs, I ended up in the kitchen at 3 a.m., parched. The downside? Sometimes I had to really make myself drink the water because I wasn’t in the mood, or I felt tired, or my stomach was already quite full.

Drinking water at these set times not only creates a positive habit but also keeps you hydrated overnight, promotes good digestion, improves your complexion, and reduces sugar and salt cravings—so say farewell to that late-night snack or oversized morning muffin, and bring on the clear skin and higher energy levels.

TRY THIS

For the next thirty days, use this ice-in-a-glass trick. Every night fill up a glass of water and drink it in the kitchen before you head to bed. Then take that same glass of water, fill it up with ice, and bring it to your bedroom. Put it on your side table or bathroom counter, whichever is more accessible, and carry on with your regular bedtime routine. In the morning, as soon as you wake up, drink the water from the melted ice. This way, you kick-start the hydration process each day.
