I’ve been in the working world for a decade, which means there’s still plenty of career lessons left for me to learn. At the same time, I’ve explored different industries and types of jobs, worked with all sorts of people across the Midwest, earned promotions and raises, and shifted into management. I consistently ask colleagues and friends for advice regarding how they handle their own paths, and I appreciate anyone willing to share insights gleaned from their work, whether it’s related to various occupations, side hustles, teams, supervisors, salaries, development opportunities, roles, and responsibilities.
In this section I’ll cover the topics that have been most instrumental for my own career journey—like how to own your strengths, take things seriously but not personally, and set boundaries to avoid burnout. We’ll also take into account ways you can seek creative challenges, invite feedback, find a mentor, and lead with integrity, just to name a few.
