Additional Trails
The Foothills Trail System is really for mountain bikers and can be quite muddy. Motorbikes may also be encountered here.
The Peabody Creek Trail is an interpretive walk that runs uphill from the Port Angeles visitor center.
The Heart of the Forest Trail runs east from the Heart o’ the Hills campground. It passes through some nice silver firs before ending at the edge of a clear-cut.
The Cox Valley Trail is no longer maintained and can be hard to follow. It accesses some subalpine meadows in the head of the Morse Creek valley.
The Madison Creek Falls Trail is a barrier-free 0.1-mile spur from the Elwha entrance station to a scenic waterfall.
The Cascade Rock Trail begins at the Elwha Campground and climbs steeply up the valley wall to reach several rather uninspiring overlook points.
The Griff Creek Trail climbs to the top of the Elwha River Range from the Elwha Ranger Station. There are good views of the valley for those who make this strenuous climb.
The Lake Mills West Shore Trail runs through bigleaf maples along the shore of this reservoir. It is maintained and makes a nice autumn stroll.
The Upper Lake Mills Trail drops quickly from the Whiskey Bend Road to a camping spot at the head of the reservoir.
The Wolf Creek Trail follows the old Whiskey Bend Road to the top of Hurricane Ridge. It offers views only along the top mile or so. Power line boxes every 2,000 feet make a constant eyesore that detracts from the wilderness quality of the hike.
The Ludden Peak Trail is an unmaintained spur that runs for a little more than 1 mile from a junction on the Dodger Point Trail. It is mainly used by climbers bound for the Bailey Range.
