The nature of time, how it should be measured, whether it is finite or infinite, how or even if, one might travel through it, has always interested me.
If, for instance, I went back in time and by accident or design, killed my own grandfather, would I then wink out of existence? If I never existed, how would I accomplish the act in the first place? Can the accidental death of a butterfly change the course of the world as it does in Bress and Gruber’s movie, The Butterfly Effect?
Is there only one timeline, or could an incident cause the timeline to split, creating two or more? If a divergence occurs, is it permanent, creating multiple realities? Or might another action cause the timelines to converge again with very little change? Loki might have one idea, while Dr. Strange has a very different one.
There are a number of theories about how time is structured. One suggests that instead of a straight line composed of seconds/minutes/hours/days etc., time and space are interconnected in a vertical spiral, wherein all times and places are one, and at the same time multiple on an infinite scale.
I don’t know the answer, but it is interesting to think about. In Time Lapse, Boros and Caraigama worry about the damage that even the smallest interaction in the past might cause the future. Ryleigh gets it, and perhaps that’s why Caraigama chooses her, in the end.
On another note, the soul stones won’t be showing up in every book in this series. Char’s Delaney relatives (details in the Tangled Souls series) may or may not visit. If and when they do, I make no apologies for their actions, good or bad.
