Part 1: New Egg

“Jon! Jon, did you hear the news?”

My best friend, Gunter, came bursting into the room shouting excitedly. I was so startled by his sudden outburst that I nearly dropped the broom I was holding!

“Whoa! Buddy! Calm down a little bit! You're going to cause an accident!” I said with a laugh. Gunter's antics always made me smile, even if they were a bit chaotic.

Gunter and I were janitors. We worked at the Grand Library six days a week, keeping the massive building squeaky clean. It was hard work, thanks to a large number of people that visited the place on a daily basis. Not to mention all the crazy things that the curators frequently brought here. See, the Grand Library was more of a museum than a library. Yes, there were towering shelves, brimming with texts, both ancient and modern, but it was also a place of study for artifacts discovered across the various servers of Roblox. In the months that I had worked here, I had seen all manner of bizarre items brought inside. On more than one occasion this had resulted in a lot of extra cleanup and myself. On this particular occasion, I was in a large room beneath the main hall, straightening up a stack of old scrolls one of the desert servers.

“Okay, Gunter, I'm all ears. Whats the news?” I asked.

“It's Professor Booker! You'll never believe what he dragged into the library today!”

“Oh no,” I groaned. “Booker is the worst! What did he find this time!”

Professor Booker is one of the chief professors here at the Grand Library. He's also one of the most notorious when it comes to bringing ridiculous items home from the Roblox worlds! A few months ago he found and subsequently lost, a large vulture that ran amock in the main halls for several hours before being recaptured.

“Well, thankfully this thing isn't alive,” Gunter said with a chuckle. “Or at least, it isn't anymore!”

“That's a relief,” I said, genuinely meaning what I said. “So what is it then?”

“It's.... an egg!”

“An egg,” I repeated, feeling a bit underwhelmed. “That's it?”

“Yes, but this egg isn't ordinary! It's almost as big as a person! And it looks like it was made out of some weird shiny rock!” Gunter countered, somewhat defensive now that I hadn't been impressed by his story.

“Alright, that does sound interesting,” I admitted. “What does Professor Booker plan to do with it? Does he have any theories about its origins?”

“I'm not sure, I only saw them bringing it in a few minutes ago, then I came down to get you! Let's go look at it together!”

I sighed. “Well, I'm almost done down here. I guess I could take a short break. Let's check it out!”

“Sweet! Follow me!” Gunter shouted excitedly and bounded towards the stairs that led to the main floor.

He ground to a halt by a strange rumbling sound. Gunter whirled around and looked at me with wide eyes.

“What was that?” he exclaimed.

I opened my mouth to respond but was cut off by an even louder rumble from overhead. Seconds later, the entire room began to shake wildly.
