Part 3: Involuntary Assignments

I LOOKED AT PROFESSOR Booker, then at my friend, both of whom now looked completely shocked. Apparently, I was missing out on something very significant.

“Hold on a minute, guys. Forgive my ignorance, but what exactly are these wings and dominus things?” I asked, perplexed.

“You don't know,” the professor gasped. “Why, they're perhaps the most valuable artifacts in the Roblox universe!”

“It's like this,” began Gunter “the wings were the property of the Mega corporation. They were created by the man who designed the Oasis server. You've heard of that right?”

“Who hasn't? That's the new server that just recently became available to the public! It sounds amazing!” I said.

“Exactly. Well, The Wings and the Pathfinder Wings are meant for the ruler of the Oasis. But after the big scandal involving the Mega corporation, the wings were confiscated and brought here by Roblox authorities until they could determine who should carry them.”

“I see,” I mused. “So they're priceless?”

“Yes! And that.... creature stole them and flew away!” the exasperated professor cried.

The professor slumped against an overturned bookshelf and put his head in his hands.

“What am I going to do,” he muttered. “The Grand Library might get shut down because of this!”

“Cheer up professor! Jon and I will get those artifacts for you! We were explorers before we started working here!” Gunter said.

I looked at my friend, aghast. We had certainly not been explorers before coming here! In fact, janitorial service was our first job of any kind! Why was he getting us involved in this? Under normal circumstances, the astute Professor Booker certainly would have realized that we were not capable of such an undertaking, but right now he was too overwrought with concern for his job and the fate of the library. He looked up at us with hopeful eyes.

“Could you do that for me? I would be forever in your debt!” he cried out.

I glared at Gunter. Something told me he hadn't counted on the professor taking us up on his wild offer.

“Uh... sure, of course! Just, uh, tell us where to get started,” he replied slowly.

“Well,” the professor began, scrambling to his feet excitedly. “The egg the dragon came from was discovered in a jungle server known as the Ruins of Wookong! I would suggest traveling there first. Perhaps the locals there can give you a clue as far as the location of the dragon!”

“That makes sense. Well, I guess there's no use in wasting time. Jon, are you ready to go?” Gunter looked at me nervously, almost afraid to make eye contact with me.

“Professor, are you sure you don't need someone to stay here and get started cleaning up this mess? It looks like a lot of work!” I asked, hopefully.

“Nonsense! I can find people to take care of this. I certainly don't want to keep you two here when you could be chasing down that blasted dragon!” he answered casually.

“Ah... excellent,” I answered while glaring at Gunter. “Well, I guess we might as well get going then. Let's head out, my fellow explorer.”

Gunter's overzealous attitude had gotten us into a sticky situation, but I wasn't going to beat him up too badly about it. He meant well, and the idea of searching for a dangerous dragon was rather exciting. Who knows? Perhaps if we could retrieve the Dominus and Pathfinder Wings we could earn a special entry in the Oasis!
